Shift Your Focus

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. -Isaiah 26:3

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. -II Corinthians 3:18

By beholding we become changed. God promises in Isaiah 26:3 that if our thoughts and affections are on Him we will experience peace through our trust in Him. He also makes another promise that as we keep our mind on Him, we will become like Him. So if we shift our focus, we can become like Christ and experience perfect peace. What a promise!

How often have you taken the time to read the stories of Christ and really meditate on His thoughts? Take for example the time the woman was caught in adultery. All the men brought her so that she could be accused and put to death by stoning. Jesus ignored them and began to write in the dust. Have you ever thought about what He was writing? Why didn't He just call out the names of the ones who had set her up or better yet, the names of the ones that had been with her which would perhaps include all of them!

Was He composing Himself? Was He giving them a way of escape or a chance to break out of this evil deed? I propose that as we reflect on Christ and ponder His thoughts, we will become like Him and experience the peace that passes all understanding. He promises that in His presence there is fullness of Joy.

May the fulness of God's joy be yours today and you shift your focus toward Him
