Psalms Sunday #11

Psalm 11 (KJV)

1In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?
2For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.
3If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
4The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
5The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
6Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
7For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

David had many enemies in his lifetime and seems at times to be consumed with the fact that wicked men are after him. In spite of his fears, he knew that God would protect them from those enemies (if He saw fit) and that in the end everything is in God's hands.

In verse 5, David seems to be offering comfort to his own soul by stating the fact that Lord trieth the righteous. Could you imagine what your life would be like spiritually if you never had any challenges to deal with? It is through these challenges that we are able to grow and build spiritual muscles.

For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. I love this verse because it speaks to the character of God. He loves righteousness because He is righteous. Can two walk together except they be agreed? So in order to walk with God, who is righteous, we must take on His righteousness and become like Him.

My prayer is that we will behold His righteousness and become like Him.

  1. Sweet, sweet thoughts.

It's nice to know that God desires righteousness because that's His character, not just a demand. He can't go against that any more than we can go against our love for our children.

Mine's up here, if you care to visit. :)
