Cable Decision

Recently I have been trying to decide if I should get rid of our cable. About a year and a half ago, I called in to reduce the cable to Limited Basic, which is supposed to just include the local channels, but they never cut our channels back so we still had all of the same channels as before for the low price of $9.99

At some point, Cox was bought out by Sudden Link. When the switch was made, our cable bill went from $9.99 to $19.99 for local channels, but for some reason we never had just the local channels until very recently. I guess they had an audit or something and realized that we were getting more channels than we were paying for, which is no problem for me because I rarely ever watch tv.

I'm thinking that $20 is an awful lot of money to pay for local channels! And I am seriously considering just turning the cable completely off. These days even PBS has questionable programming. Is there anyone else that lives cable free? How do you like it?

  1. My husband and I have never been ones to pay for television, especially when we wouldn't watch a majority of the channels anyway! In CA, it wasn't such a big deal, because you could get all of the local channels without cable. Now we get only one channel, and perhaps PBS if the weather is bad in Dallas.

The benefit of not having cable is that we don't watch as much tv as we used to. We do have the 3ABN satellite dish and the kids have videos they enjoy, but no cable.

  2. I don't think we can get cable here yet. Too rural I guess. lol ;o)

We get 3 local channels and (because we are up on a hill and fairly close to the US border), we get 3 US channels with the help of the rabbit ears. For us that is more than enough. So I tell people we have country cable. ;o)

If we ever have the extra $ we would like to get a 3ABN satellite dish.

  3. Ann, Isn't that the truth. No need to pay for something you don't watch.

    Lisa, I like that-country cable.
