Happy New Year!!

Wow, I can't believe it's 2010. Is it me or does time seem to be going more quickly?? We had a busy holiday season over here. I got my cookies mailed out to friends and they absolutely loved them. I was actually a bit overwhelmed by the great response. Looks like I have a new ministry tor work on. :)

I had a great time knitting and relaxing. I finished knitting all the pieces for my son's sweater (I'll show that in another post) and now I just need to sew it together and put the zipper in. I should be finished with it by next week. Next on the needles is my daughter's panda bag. It will most likely be a Valentine's Day gift for her with a few goodies put inside (have I ever said how much I LOVE bags).

We spent 2 weeks in Florida visiting family. My Mom bought a Christmas tree for the kids and they had a great time decorating it.

We spent most of Christmas Day at my Grandmother's house. Even though I'm vegan now, I love looking at all the baked goodies she makes. It always looks and smells like a bakery over there.

Here are a FEW pictures of the items that my Grandmother made for Christmas. There was a whole stack of boxes full of confectioneries that I didn't even get to!

She calls these church windows. It's marshmellows, and chocolate and some other stuff all rolled in coconut. When you cut them, it gives the appearance of stained glass windows.

These are her Mexcian Wedding Balls. I made my own this year because she puts butter in hers. They looked really good though and I was tempted to eat one. :)Red Velvet Cake

Sticky Buns. She made 3 sets of these for my brothers. My twin brother that came home tried to keep all 3 sets for himself. LOL

I think this was the German Chocolate Cake.

My Grandmother's love of baking has been passed down to me. Now I just need more Vegan recipes to get me motivated. So how was your Holiday Season?

  2. Happy New Year!! My family calls the Mexican Wedding Balls by a different name- Jubilees. I make them vegan- so quick and easy. The Joy of Vegan Baking has a recipe for them as well.

My sister makes a great vegan carob version of German Chocolate Cake. I'm not a chocolate or carob fan, but her cake is pretty good. She makes a great vegan version of all of the Southern favorites- pecan pie, sweet potato pie, even pound cake! I'll get the info for you on where she gets her recipes.
