Oven Baked French Toast Recipe with vegan option

French Toast is one of my favorite breakfast foods. My Mom made it often when I was growing up. This weekend a local bed and breakfast featured its recipe in a local magazine and she even has instructions to veganize it. I made it this morning and it was delightful. The recipe is only for 2 servings so be sure to make proportions suitable for your family.

French bread cut 1-1 1/4 wide remove crusts

1 large egg

1/4 cup milk

1 dash Heavy cream

1 Tbsp maple syrup

1 Tbsp orange syrp

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1/8 tsp salt

1. Whisk it all together until well blended.

2. Preheat oven to 375 F

3. SPOON the batter over the bread, including the crustless edges. Place on greased cookie sheet

4. Place bread in oven and bake 10 minutes.

5. Flip and bake another 10-15 minutes until top is golden brown.

6. Serve immediately; sprinkled with powdered sugar, fresh fruit or topping of your choice.

*Do not dip as this is what makes the bread soggy

Vegan French Toast

  1. Looks delicious!
I decided to make some time for blog visiting this morning.
We've been so busy these days. My husband got a new full time job and we'll be moving next month. Our son is graduating next month. And me, I've been working full time and taking classes.

  2. I made french toast yesterday from a NEWSTART recipe. I followed your advice to spoon the batter over the bread instead of soaking it. It worked so much better!

Next time I make bread I'm going to try your recipe.

  3. Yummy! I'm going to try this. I use a recipe using cashews to make a delightful batter. My girls love it!
