My Curlformers Test

Recently I tried curlformers. I was very hesitant at first because I just couldn't understand how my coily hair couldn't be straightened by such a contraption. But I must say that I was rather pleased with the results!

I washed and conditioned my hair and then used Curly Nikki's styling spritz. I had to buy some extra curlformers, because my in my original purchase I got the regular length. Big mistake. If you plan to buy them, get the longest ones possible to account for hair growth.

I used a total of 36 curlformers and sat under the dryer for about an hour. I could have done less because half of head was dry by the time I finished. The curlformers are coded by color for width. I used the pink and orange ones.

I bought 2 more packs and so I will try again to see if I get even better results. The style lasted 2 days. I wish I had pin-curled them at night to keep the style even longer. I will definitely try that next time.

  1. "If you plan to buy them, get the longest ones possible to account for hair growth." I wish someone had told me this sooner. *sigh*

The trouble is... I honestly didn't think my hair was going to go much further than it was. After all, I've had roughly shoulder length hair my whole life, and it never moved. Ah well...

  2. That's the beauty of natural hair. It will grow much longer than processed hair if taken care of properly. I am still amazed at how much my hair has grown.

  3. Oh Yolanda, I did have natural hair... I just didn't know what to do with it beyond combing it every day with a fine tooth comb (you read that right), brushing furiously, greasing it, and putting it back in a bun, small plaits, or the occasional canerow/cornrow. (See the problem?)

I only started researching about 2 years ago when I got really frustrated with my hair and started considering locs. (I had a texturiser for a very short time. Not for me.)

  4. Sounds like my daughter's hair. She's never had a perm, but for the life of me I didn't know what to do with her hair. Now it's thriving and looking great.
